Elder Jewelry’s beginning:
Eugene Alfred Elder started Elder Company in 1896 in Hebron,
Nebraska were he sold pianos, musical instruments, and jewelry, and was very
successful. His brother, Alfred Elder, joined the business in May, 1901
when the company’s name was changed to Elder Jewelry. The only other employees
of Elder Jewelry were their wives, Clyda and Edith, and Eugene’s son, Eugene
Edward Elder.
Alfred Elder and is wife,
Edith, started an Elder Jewelry store in Geneva, Nebraska, which was open from 1903 to 1988. (Alfred and Edith had no children)
Alfred Elder died in 1939, and Eugene Alfred Elder died in 1945. Eugene’s
son took over the business at that time along with his wife, Betty. Eugene still
has a jewelry store (Elder Jewelry) in Fairbury, Nebraska, and he will be 80 years old in May, 2006. Eugene and his son, Kim Eugene Elder, started the Triple E Company in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1975. That company was closed and Kim Eugene Elder and wife, Francie, started the current Elder Jewelry store in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1980. The Elder
Jewelry store in Hebron, Nebraska was closed in March of 1985. The Elder Jewelry
store in Fairbury, Nebraska was opened in September of 1987. Kim Eugene Elder
is the owner of the Lincoln Elder Jewelry, and is happily operated by the 3rd
generation of Elders. The current
employees of Elder Jewelry, 3111 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln, Nebraska are: Kim E. Elder, owner, Lynn Elder, (sister)
manager, Lisa Gleason, and Debbie Harris, experienced sales representatives.
